152 AW Firehouse unveils silver LEED certificate Sunday Published Oct. 13, 2012 By 011012 RENO -- The Nevada Air National Guard is set to host an unveiling ceremony for the Silver LEED certificate it received for its brand new fire station here at the air base on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. The commander of the Nevada Air National Guard, Brig. Gen. Snyder is scheduled to preside over the unveiling. Although the event is not open to the public, media is invited to attend the ceremony. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is an initiative of the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED encourages a more sustainable approach to the way buildings are designed, constructed and operated. The 6 main categories of LEED are: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environment Quality and Innovation in Design. The new firehouse features solar panels and 90 percent of the previous building's debris was recycled. -30-
