Director of the Air National Guard recognizes Airmen Saturday

The exemplary service and dedication of the top Airmen in the Nevada Air Guard will be recognized Saturday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center during the annual Nevada Air National Guard Award Ceremony. Lt. Gen. Harry "Bud" Wyatt, the Washington, D.C.-based director of the Air National Guard, and Nevada adjutant general Brig. Gen. Bill Burks will preside over the ceremony.

As director of the Air National Guard, Wyatt is responsible for formulating, developing and coordinating policies, plans and programs affecting more than 106,800 Guard members in more than 88 flying wings and 200 geographically separated units throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

Nevada media is welcome to attend. The ceremony will recognize the top Airman, noncommissioned officer and first sergeant in the state.

Senior Airman William Marler (152nd Intelligence Squadron) of Reno scored Airman of the Year honors and Tech. Sgt. Joshua Rogers (192nd Airlift Squadron), also of Reno was named the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. Las Vegas resident Master Sgt. Darin Mauzy (232nd Operations Squadron) is the senior noncommissioned officer named and Staff Sgt. Javier Sosa (152nd Logistics Readiness Squadron) of Reno represents the honor guard.  Sparks resident Master Sgt. Jason Farnsworth (152nd Medical Group) is the First Sergeant of the Year and 1st Lt. Lance King (192nd Airlift Squadron) of Reno was named the Company Grade Officer of the Year.

Other Airmen will also be recognized for their contributions to the Air Force and Air National Guard in 2011.

In the past year, the more than 1,100 High Rollers of the Nevada Air Guard have provided daily support to Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom, regional support in Europe, Central America and Antarctica, and recently, support to the local Reno community during the Caughlin Fire.
