Colonel John A. Duffy

Col. John A. Duffy serves as the Vice Wing Commander for the 152nd Airlift Wing at the Nevada Air National Guard Base, Reno, Nev. He functions as the key advisor to the Wing Commander to provide leadership, management, manpower, equipment, and training during peacetime, in preparation to perform the wartime mission. He works with the wing commander to direct policy and programming necessary to sustain the readiness of more than 1,100 Airmen wing-wide.

Col. Duffy enlisted as a Photographic and Sensors Maintenance Specialist in the Nevada Air National Guard in 1987 and trained at Lowery Air Force Base, Colo. In 1997, while serving a JOINT GUARD intelligence field mission in Bosnia, supporting United Nations Stabilization Forces (SFOR), Col. Duffy was selected to attend the Academy of Military Science where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. His first assignment as an officer was as a Personnel Officer with the 152nd Mission Support Flight. In 2001, he became the Public Affairs Officer for 152nd Airlift Wing. During this assignment, he attended Defense Information School (DINFOS) at Fort Meade, Md. From 2005 to 2006 he served as Executive Officer at the Nevada Air National Guard headquarters during which he was promoted to Major. In 2006, he transferred back to the 152nd Airlift wing as the Commander of the 152nd Services Flight. A position he held until the Services Flight and the Personnel Flight merged forming the 152nd Force Support Squadron in 2009. After the merger, he became the Force Support Squadron Readiness Officer. In November of 2010 he took command of the 152nd Logistics Readiness Squadron where he served for two years before moving to take command of the 152nd Security Forces Squadron in December of 2012 where he served for 6 years. Starting in January of 2019, he served as the Deputy Director of Personnel at headquarters NVANG. Also of note is that from 1999 through 2008 he maintained an additional duty position as commander of the 152nd Resource Protection Team supporting the 152nd Security Police in base defense.

For the past fifteen years, Col. Duffy has served as the Director of Software and Mathematics Test for a Fortune 500 company. He has 24 years’ experience leading engineering and math professionals in software testing and in creating innovative quality assurance methodologies. In this director position he has led over two hundred professionals located at offices located in seven countries. Prior to his current military position, Col. Duffy served as Nevada Air National Guard’s Director of Personnel (A1), Joint Force Headquarters Carson City, Nev.
