Nevada National Guard renders honors to fallen Marines

RENO -- Yesterday, the Nevada Air National Guard had the sad but honorable task of hosting the Dignified Transfer for the seven Marines killed in the tragic operational training mishap at the Hawthorne Army Depot March 18. Marine honor guards were on hand to escort the fallen members of 1st Battalion, 9th Marines on to an awaiting C-17 aircraft. The battalion was conducting night live-fire attacks when an explosion at a mortar firing position killed the seven Marines and wounded 8 more service members. Local police agencies from around the Reno area were also present to escort the remains and to show their respects.
