More than 50 women veterans attended the Nevada Office of Veterans Services Women Veterans Wellness Event here on June 29 at the Siena Hotel. The event was the first of three wellness events the Office of Veterans Services will host this year for women veterans. The events emphasize healthy life choices for all ages of women.

Participants had the opportunity to attend a variety of classes that focused on women's health, including stress management, healthy cooking, and "aging gracefully," which provided information on menopause, osteoporosis and other health topics for women over 40.

A financial benefits class that provided information on federal and state resources was also available.

Fitness activities included Tai Chi for arthritis and massage.

Glenna Smith of Congressman Dean Heller's office was a guest speaker and recognized the service of the women veterans. Reno vice-mayor Sharon Zadra was the guest speaker at lunch and expressed her concern for veterans affairs and thanked the veterans for their unique sacrifices.

Letters of thanks to the women veterans were read from Governor Brian Sandoval, Senator Dean Heller, Senator Harry Reid, Congressman Joe Heck and Congresswoman Dina Titus.
