Marine honor guards were on hand to escort the fallen members of 1st Battalion, 9th Marines on to an awaiting C-17 aircraft. The battalion was conducting night live-fire attacks when an explosion at a mortar firing position killed the seven Marines and wounded 8 more service members. Local police agencies from around the Reno area were also present to escort the remains and to show their respects.
