Operation Baldilocks raises fast funds for High Rollers in need

NEVADA AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE -- It's a haircut normally reserved for basic trainees, but by uttering a few quick words, senior leaders of the Nevada Air Guard were shorn the same as basic trainees at Lackland Air Force Base.

In late June, the 152nd Airlift Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Bill Moore said the Junior Enlisted Council asked if he'd shave his head if they were able to raise $500 for the council fund. "I said no," Moore said, "but that I'd do it for the Airman's Assistance Fund for $1,000." Chief Master Sgt. Stan Martinez of the 152nd Operations Support Flight raised the stakes and offered up his cranium if the councils raised $1,500. It didn't take long.

By Sunday, August 5, the councils had exceeded their wager minimum and troops gathered in the quad to see the locks rain down. Surprising the crowd, though, the commander of the Nevada Air Guard, Brig. Gen. Dave Snyder, got his head in the game.
"If you can raise another $1,000 in five minutes, I'll shave mine, too."

Pockets emptied with two minutes to spare. By the time the first clipper whirred, the High Rollers had raised $3,300, with $500 earmarked for a cancer fund.
