On Saturday, Col. Burkett and Master Sgt. Hays rappelled from the top of the Grand Sierra Resort here in Reno to help raise money for the Special Olympics.

According to Maggie Schwarz with the Special Olympics, there are eleven local programs for the more than 3,000 Special Olympics athletes here in Nevada. The program provides tools to its athletes and helps prepare them for life.

This particular fund-raiser at the Grand Sierra Resort was open to businesses and individuals. Some companies raised money through a "Toss Your Boss" campaign, and others simply made individual donations.

The two 152nd Airlift Wing members, wing commander Col. Jeff Burkett and Master Sgt. Rick Hays both enjoyed their time on the rappel lines. Approximately 27 stories, or 320 feet later, Master Sgt. Hays mentioned that, "It was a rush, and I was glad to have a partner up there." Col. Burkett said that he, "Was honored to represent the 152nd and to support the Special Olympics."
