Director of Staff- Air, Caesar Garduno was recognized as the Nevada Air Guard's newest colonel Friday when he received his colonel rank insignia from Gov. Brian Sandoval during a promotion ceremony here at the Capitol.

Garduno, 47, of Reno, became the Nevada Air Guard's chief of staff in July. He previously served as the commander of the 192nd Airlift Squadron in Reno and he also previously recorded a stint as the standardization evaluation flight examiner for the 152nd Operations Support Flight.

"This is a significant milestone, and a memorable event in my life not only because of the extreme honor of being promoted to colonel, but how the ceremony nearly corresponds with Nevada's Sesquicentennial celebration," Garduno said.

Garduno previously served as the commander of the 192nd Airlift Squadron in Reno, commander of the 152nd Operations Support Flight and, for a time, was the Chief of Standards and Evaluations for the 152nd Operations Group.  Prior to joining the Nevada Air Guard, he was an active duty Air Force pilot.

Garduno is a 1989 graduate of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He remains an academy interview committee member for Congressman Mark Amodei.
